The pictures above were taken from where we parked in Battle Creek. There is a nice walkway along the river with little bridges across it here and there. And lots of flowers! It was very pretty.
It was such a beautiful day yesterday that we had to get in the car and go somewhere. We first stopped in Marshall to check out the antique stores there. I picked up a couple of things, but I haven’t taken pictures of them yet, so I will blog about them another time. After we left Marshall, we cruised around for awhile in the sunshine and ended up in Battle Creek – the cereal capital of the world! We drove past Kellogg’s and Steve said roll down your window. The air was filled with the aroma of Fruity Pebbles! Probably one of the best factory smells around!
We ended up right downtown. I have been to Battle Creek before – we used to take the kids to a great swim park there, but I’d never been downtown. It was very pretty! Lots of neat buildings and tons of flowers along the streets. They could have used a few cute stores to browse around in, but we did find a cute Irish Pub called Griffin Grill & Pub and stopped in for a beer.
This is the artistic picture Steve took at the Griffin Grill & Pub. We almost always like to sit at the bar. That beer was mine – an Octoberfest of some sort. I can’t remember which one. I guess I had a couple too many beers yesterday!
After we left the pub, we walked down the street and found the Arcadia Brewing Company. Well, of course we had to stop in there for a beer too! Ha! We also had some good food to go along with it! We ordered an appetizer called Devils on a Blanket or something like that. They were so good! They were dates stuffed with cream cheese and chipotle sauce then wrapped in bacon. Sweet and spicy! The dip that that came with put them right over the top. I think it was worcestershire sauce, honey and rosemary and I think some sort of vinegar. I wouldn’t let the waitress take the sauce away. When our Tuscan pizza baked in a wood fire oven came, we dipped the pizza in the rest of the sauce. Ha!
I just finished another plate of those Devils on a Blanket because I had ordered some to go. I heated them up in the convection oven and they were better than they were yesterday because the bacon got really crispy. Yum Yum Yum!
